All of Numi’s products are certified organic. We are committed to sourcing only the highest quality organic teas from farms we have known and partnered with for years. Additionally, we require laboratory testing for all of our teas and each purchase we make is accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis verifying that the teas and herbs meet our quality requirements. Our suppliers are also subject to random and annual inspections to verify organic and Fair Trade/Fair Labor practices.
Numi participates in third-party certification programs, audited annually for compliance, to ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and community benefits for the farmers that grow our tea. All of Numi’s teas, and most of our products, are either Fair Trade or Fair Labor certified. Look for the Fair Trade CertifiedTM or Verified Fair LaborTM seal on our packaging as a guarantee that rigorous social, environmental, and economic standards were upheld in the making of your product.

We are asked all the time how many milligrams of caffeine are in a particular cup of tea, and the honest answer is: we don’t know for sure! The environment each year, location of the bush, processing style and method of steeping all has an effect on the amount in your cup. This is why we only provide a range. We use the lower, medium, and high caffeine labeling on our packages based on past tests and the proportion of tea to ingredients in each blend. A 6 to 8 ounce cup of tea generally contains between 15 and 70 milligrams of caffeine. Remember, 8 ounces of brewed coffee has a range of 95-200mg, so you can be sure that your cup of tea will always be lower in caffeine.
Our teabags are compostable and made from manila hemp cellulose (plant fiber). They are Non-GMO Verified, unbleached, and the tag is made from 100% recycled materials and soy-based inks. Our tea strings are made from cotton.
Numi’s tea bag wrappers* are commercially compostable (ASTM D6868 compliant/3rd party certification in progress). They are made from sustainably grown FSC® certified paper, and lined with sugarcane-based Non-GMO PLA and metalized eucalyptus layers to ensure freshness. Our plant-based wrappers have been tested to make sure they completely disintegrate and cause no eco-toxicity when they break down. You can compost the wrappers with any municipal or industrial service that accepts green waste (throw them in your green can). Unfortunately, due to the compostable freshness lining, the wrappers are not recyclable.
